The Fallen Cavalry

The following photos were taken by an excellent Marine photographer here (Lance Cpl Stephen Kwietniak) a few nights ago, as members of the various units in eastern Afghanistan gathered to remember the four from 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry who died in the Chinook crash on May 5 - there was a separate ceremony in Bagram for the six from the helicopter squadron. It was a touching ceremony, emotional for many who took part, and uplifting, as soldiers from the new unit--this was their first commanding officer among the fallen--vowed to carry on the way their comrades would have wanted.

God bless the fallen soldiers and their families. Because of you and the others who press on, their deaths shall not be in vain.

So sorry about the fallen ones. Makes my heart hurt. Thank you for taking us there. We need that! The pics are great--both yours and the LCpl's. Glad you're safe.

Emotional at this end too! I know they are in a better place But I pray for comfort for the families. "They also serve who only stand and wait...and grieve"

Col. Fenty was one of the most wonderful people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He led my husband's unit from a special place in his heart. His Love of family, faith, freedom and his soldiers was evident in everything he did. He is truly missed by our unit. I am proud to have known him.

Thank you for posting these pictures.
