The Fallen Cavalry

The following photos were taken by an excellent Marine photographer here (Lance Cpl Stephen Kwietniak) a few nights ago, as members of the various units in eastern Afghanistan gathered to remember the four from 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry who died in the Chinook crash on May 5 - there was a separate ceremony in Bagram for the six from the helicopter squadron. It was a touching ceremony, emotional for many who took part, and uplifting, as soldiers from the new unit--this was their first commanding officer among the fallen--vowed to carry on the way their comrades would have wanted.
