Moving on...

It's about to time to pull chocks and head up north, so I thought I'd include some leftover photos from my time here in sunny Salerno.

OK, she will probably kill me when she sees it, but here is my friend Shannon briefly visiting the FOB. As one of the very few Marines out here, it's great to have someone you've known since you were newly-commissioned lieutenants together, even if we met up for 5 whole minutes. I can see the Quantico papers now with the hard-hitting story: Delta Company '96 represents in OEF VI...

Ah, the chow line. The joys of waiting for such cuisine simply cannot be overstated. Honestly, I'm grateful for what we eat and for those who make it, but green lunchmeat and cannned veggie mush don't exactly provide alternatives to the daily mystery meat served up...

The unusual two-story structure behind the bunker? That's a shithouse...excuse me, a hygiene facility. The local natives must absolutely love that...the biggest structures we built on a big base are for the most equalizing function man can do.

So it's adios for now to my first Afghan home...
